Efkere Families

While much of this website documents historic structures and places in the village of Efkere, it is perhaps even more important to document the families and the individuals that called Efkere home

In his landmark book, Gesi Vadisi, Huseyin Comert suggests that the following late 19th century surnames represent the prominent Armenian families of the village: Kalaycıoğlu, Pamukçuoğlu, Der Kakos, Çopuroğlu, Baklaoğlu, Sanoğlu, Karaoğlu, Kayseroğlu, Hacı Serkisoğlu, Saraçoğlu, Budakoğlu, Koltuğu kabaoğlu, Kocaoğlu, Sinemoğlu, Bodikoğlu, Devletoğlu, Esiroğlu, Kuyumcuoğlu, Şahbazoğlu, Aynalıoğlu, Nurluoğlu, Solakoğlu, Avanoğlu, Yağlıoğlu, Papasoğlu, Miyasoğlu

The -oglu suffix corresponds to the Armenian -ian.

The list is certainly not complete, and every effort is going to be made to identify the surnames of as many Armenian and Turkish residents as possible, particularly in the years leading up to the First World War.

This page will present photographs taken in the village, particularly for the years prior to 1940. Any submissions would be greatly appreciated
